At Surf Sanctuary, our Advanced Surf Lessons draw upon decades of coaching and free surfing across many locations around the world. Our senior coaches Dom Moore and Tom Earl have the knowledge and experience required to help you define your surfing goals, and enable you to reach them. We run these sessions from our base overlooking Fistral Beach.

Common areas for progression on advanced surfing lessons include:
-
Green wave and steeper wave take-offs
-
Positioning and increasing wave count
-
Dealing with crowds and line-up etiquette
-
The perfect bottom turn - the fundamental of power surfing
-
Functional lip maneuvers, including: top turns, floaters, re-entries
-
Cutbacks and generating speed
-

Paddling efficienty and trim -
Getting out past the break and duck-diving
-
Understanding and using more progressive surfboards

We work on the knowledge - technique - fitness framework for surfing progression. This is a model that we developed which neatly encapsulates all areas of surfing development. Using it helps us establish the demands of a specific surfing goal, and to map out how to get there.

Advanced surfing goals are unique to each surfer and there is not space for us to list all scenarios here. We invite you to get in touch with us to chat about what you want to learn, then we can set up a session for you.

ADVANCED SURFING FAQ'S
Am I ready for an advanced surfing lesson? If you can reliably pop up and are ready to learn how to paddle into green waves (and anything beyond this), then an advanced surf lesson would be good for you. How big will the waves be? We'll establish your requirements and help you choose the day with the conditions that will suit you best. It's important that the conditions allow you to access green waves without the risk of getting stuck paddling out for 30 minutes. I want to try a shorter board, can I use one of yours? Certainly! We have a selection of PU and Epoxy boards around the 45-50 litre range. These are perfect for surfers moving on from a foamie board in green waves. Can I bring my own kit? Yes you can. We may take a back-up board down to the water for you to try alongside your own board. Back-up boards are typically bigger and easier to learn a particular skill on, before transferring it to your own board. How fit do I need to be? One thing that unites all surfers, is that sooner or later the limiting factor to progession is fitness. Dom and Tom recognise this, so will break the lesson down and set the pace so that you can learn without getting unduly exhausted. You just need to be as fit as you are :) How many lessons will I need? We try to get as much information across as possible so that you have plenty of techniques to consolidate in your own free surfing sessions. Some people have one lesson, some people have several sessions a year, year after year. Most people are somewhere in between :) Are there any restrictions on who you can teach? Not really. There aren't any restrictions on who can enjoy surfing. Everything can be adapted to suit. If you are ready to get out of the white water then get in touch.
